Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first female vice president and the most powerful female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general for California in 2011-2017 and she was a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings earned the attention of the nation, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
